There's a Bigfoot in My Shower by John Nygard is a fun story about a boy who is growing up and learning how to understand the world. The story begins with Jack, our hero, being afraid to take a shower because of how hard the water comes down from the shower head. After conquering his fear and taking a shower like a big boy on his own, Jack looks through the steam out into the back yard and sees a scary shadow. Right away his young mind goes to the first thing that makes sense to him: Bigfoot! He runs and tells his parents, who say there is no such thing and send him off to bed. The next day, Jack goes to take another shower and is shocked to find a scary shadow in the shower grunting and groaning. It must be Bigfoot! When his parents refuse to believe him yet again, Jack decides that he has only one option left. If no one will believe him, then he will just have to catch Bigfoot himself.
I read this short story to my 4 year old daughter and she loved it. The first thing out of her mouth was, "Can we read it again?" That's the number one sign that you found a good story. The art work was a lot of fun and she really enjoyed seeing the shadows and Bigfoot move around on the page. The book was well written and well edited. The story moved very fast and kept my daughter, and myself, interested the entire time. Another feature that I enjoyed was some of the words were highlighted in fun ways. The teacher in me liked this since it could easily lend itself to vocabulary acquisition. Great book and I highly recommend it.
